The cottage
Lower Hawksfold Cottage is where Hawksfold's hospitality began, and it still sets the standard for everything we're building: unfussy comfort, real quiet, and the estate all around you. Downstairs there's a farmhouse kitchen with everything you actually need, a sitting room arranged around the woodburner (starter basket of our own kindling and logs provided), and a boot room that means business. Upstairs, the main bedroom has a queen-size bed, and the second sleeps two in single bunks — a hit with children, perfectly serviceable for grown-ups. The bathroom has a bath and shower, basin and WC, and the bath earns its keep after a day on the paths.
Outside you get a private garden with a table for long breakfasts, your own parking, and a gate straight onto the estate paths. Pheasants patrol the lawn most mornings; on summer evenings you can watch bats over the garden with a glass of something local.
Days here
Wander down to an unbooked hide with your coffee. Walk into Midhurst across the fields for the paper and a bakery stop. Take the South Downs Way up Cocking Hill, or spend a lazy afternoon at Petworth. Evenings are for the barn owls and the woodburner, in that order. Our area guides have a week's worth of ideas.

Yes — well-behaved dogs are welcome (leads on the estate, please; there's livestock and ground-nesting wildlife about).
Is the cottage warm in winter?
Very — central heating plus the woodburner, and winter is honestly one of the best times here: owls hunting in daylight, clear skies, and the fire on by four.
