Downsview House
The biggest stay we're planning: a whole house for eight with the chalk ridge of the South Downs filling every south-facing window. Built for full-family takeovers.
What Downsview House will be
Downsview does what it says: every principal room faces south, and what fills the windows is the long chalk ridge of the Downs — green in June, gold in August, frost-pale on the best winter mornings. As the largest stay on the estate it's being planned around how big families actually holiday: bedrooms enough for eight without anyone drawing the short straw, more than one place to sit so the readers can escape the card game, a kitchen and dining room that seat the full company, and a garden that runs towards the view. [PLACEHOLDER: bedroom configuration, bathroom count and garden details to be confirmed.]
Who it's for
Whole-family takeovers: the milestone birthday, the Christmas everyone finally manages, three generations under one roof with the estate to absorb the energy. Grandparents get the view and an armchair; the middle generation gets the South Downs Way; the kids get mud, and everyone gets an evening walk to listen for owls. Add a private hide session or two and the week plans itself — our wildlife pages are good pre-trip reading.
A note while we build
Downsview House is the most ambitious project on our list and the furthest from finished — everything on this page may evolve, and the opening date most of all. Honest progress reports go in the Estate Journal; for gatherings that can't wait, our open stays can be combined.
