What the Granary Loft will be
Granaries were built up high to keep the grain dry and the rats guessing, which is why this loft gets a view nothing else on the farm can match. You'll climb the old external steps — worn hollow by two centuries of sack-carrying — to one open room under the roof timbers: bed at the gable window facing the Downs, a small kitchen along one wall, and a sitting corner where the light is. It will be the smallest of our stays and, at head height with the swallows, arguably the best perch. [PLACEHOLDER: bed size, bathroom layout and headroom quirks to be confirmed.]
Who it's for
Couples who choose the room at the top of the house on principle. Morning coffee happens on the steps, watching the yard wake up; evenings end at the gable window as the light goes off the ridge. Fair warning for house-hunters of the level-access kind: the steps are the whole point here, so if stairs are a problem, the Old Dairy is the one we're designing for you. Walkers should note the South Downs Way is close enough to plan a big day out from the breakfast table.
